About Know Your MOT

Check what your motor usually fails its MOT on, and the part that fixes it

Start from your car's make and model and see the MOT items it fails on most often, from real DVSA test data, and the exact aftermarket part that fixes each, with a place to buy it. Every failure item links straight to the part that resolves it, so a fail sheet becomes a shopping list.

Per-model MOT failure rates and the ranked failure items are computed directly from DVSA MOT History API test-and-defect records, cited on each page. Failure defect texts are grouped into MOT categories (suspension, lamps and electrical, tyres, brakes and so on). Figures currently use a recent DVSA sample and refresh from the daily DVSA data feed; the full historical dataset is being ingested for per-generation detail.

Failure rates describe how common an item is across a model, not a diagnosis of your car. An MOT tester's exact wording and the correct part depend on your specific vehicle, engine, trim and VIN. These are safety-related parts: confirm the fitment against your registration or VIN before buying, and have safety-critical work done by a competent mechanic.
